blACk ShAdoWs

He was sleeping for sure,
when he heard this noise.
It was a cry of a child.
But, it sounded like an echo.

He looked up to check the time.
It was 2:13am sharp.
He got up from his bed, to see who is crying?
But all he saw was heavy rains.

So he went back to bed,
but took him hours to sleep.
Next morning he woke up and came to know,
that his neighbor was dead.

He went for the funeral.
He prayed for peace.
But something was strange in that morning-air.
Something which he never felt before.

He left for home sooner.
and had his dinner early.
and when he went in the basement to fix the bulb.
and there they were.

He felt that he was surrounded.
by few dark shadows.
which moved around him,
as every step he took in fear.

He could not believe his sight.
as they moved without a noise.
and this was for real.
and not just a thought, but fright.

His spine shivered.
with his eyes wide open.
he ran upstairs,
and next thing to see was him running in the snow.

He tried sleeping that night too.
but again, getting disturbed at 2:13am
and  this time he found out who was crying.
which surprisingly turned out to be a black cat, in pain.

Early morning,
he heard his friend's father died.
he could not believe this.
and cursed the rains, coz they are unlucky.

But deep within, he knew that there was something.
or someone, that was warning him.
those dark shadows from the basement,
and  the echoed cry of the cat meant something.

That night,
he went downstairs by himself.
he started questioning the shadows.
and the answer was understood, rather than heard.

Now, he is their friend.
and the Cat doesn't cries any more.
The shadows also stopped disturbing him.
Did God really bless him?
